KOLENE SALT BATH CLEANING
Century has the unique situation of utilising its salt bath expertise with the requirements that are needed to produce the extreme degree of cleaning that this process can deliver if done correctly. We use Kolene® No. 6, a mid-temperature (288° – 399° C) catalysed oxidizing salt for quick and complete removal of carbon, grease, oils, stearate and dry lubricants from components during their manufacture.
This is particularly important with the cleaning of Titanium fasteners before their heat treatment process and is particularly beneficial in preventing Alpha case. Also very effective in cured paint and powder stripping from a variety of metallic substrates.
The high film strength lubricants necessary to prevent metal to metal contact during wire drawing naturally have good adherence properties. The condition is further aggravated when conversion coatings are used or when the lubricant reacts chemically with the wire under the pressures and temperatures involved. In the latter cases, the soils involved are an integral part of the surface and must be removed by chemical cleaning. Salt bath conditioning in the wire industry is increasingly important as the complexity of wire alloys changes and pollution controls become more restrictive.
Century is able to offer an excellent quality finish and fast turnaround with small batches often completed in several hours when customers request this service. We also offer a collection and delivery service within the West Midlands area.
